LeRoy wrestlers took the mats at Assembly Hall this morning for the Quarterfinals of the IHSA Individual State Championships. Three wrestlers, Austin Matlock, Justin Meyers and Josh Johnson won, and will wrestle later tonight for a chance at the State Championship.
Matlock won his first round match Thursday over Chance Shelton of Harvard by a 5-4 decision. This morning, Matlock defeated Ryan Kilroy from Lisle to advance to the Semifinals.
Meyers kept his undefeated season intact by defeating Justin Wright of Litchfield yesterday and Maurice Wilson of Walther in the quarterfinals.
Josh Johnson beat Oregon's Josh Merrill, then Daniel Edwards of Vandalia and is now two wins away from a State Championship.
Also in quarterfinal action, Devin Bulington, Caleb Wilson and Brad Simmons were defeated. They still have a chance at third place and are currently wrestling in wrestlebacks. Ty Sandy is also in wrestlebacks after losing in the first round of State.
