Lady Panthers going to State

LeRoy's girls' basketball team defeated #1 ranked Annawan 56-53 in the Super Sectional at Ilinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center.

The Panthers now advance to play in the Final Four at Redbird Arena.

LeRoy led for most of the game, with a 26-20 lead at halftime and a 39-39 lead after three quarters. But in the fourth Annawan grabbed the lead and the two teams traded scores all the way to the finish.

In the final four minutes, Molly Marcum hit a three pointer to give LeRoy a 44-42 lead. Lauren Russell hit another three after the game was tied, giving the Panthers a 47-44 win.

The Panthers extended the lead up to 53-47 in the last three minutes, but Annawan clawed back to cut the lead to 1. Shannon Steffen made a free throw to give LeRoy a three-point lead, then Annawan hit a layup to cut the lead back to 1 with 13 seconds left.

LeRoy turned the ball over, but Annawan missed a layup that would have given them the lead. LeRoy got the ball into Ashley Walker who made both free throws. After a missed half-court shot, the celebration was on as the Panthers sealed a 56-53 victory.

Ashley Walker led the Panthers with 22 points, Molly Marcum had 16 and Lauren Russell had 13.
