Tribute to Veterans 

Now through Nov. 17 the Empire Township Historical Museum will be hosting a “Tribute to Veterans” exhibit from 12 to 3 p.m.

The event will include a guided tour by retired LeRoy police Chief Gordon Beck.

 

LeRoy H.S. Play 

LeRoy High School will present “A Murder is Announced,” a play based on a work of British author Agatha Christie on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at LHS. Tickets available at the door. 

 

Bellflower Country Opry

The Bellflower Country Opry November Opry will take place Saturday, Nov. 16. Doors open at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7 p.m. 

The show will feature Rusty Cummings and Keith White.

Barn Keepers

Barn Keepers will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the auditorium of the Evergreen FS Building (formerly McLean County Farm Bureau Building), 402 N. Hershey Rd., Bloomington, IL.

This will be the Annual Meeting of the organization. Meetings are open to the public. Refreshments will be served. 

 

May Queen Rebekahs

May Queen Rebekah Lodge #210 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18. for a Thanksgiving potluck followed by a regular meeting.

 

FC Auxiliary Meeting

The Joe Williams American Legion Post 55 Auxiliary regular monthly meeting will take place 7 p.m. at the post home on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.  

Members 2014 dues are due to Sandra Kirby at the meeting. 
The event will be hosting
District 19 president, Dawn Friedman.

The Auxiliary wishes to thank all who attended, volunteered and donated to the annual Smorgasbord on Nov. 7 and  district fundraiser on Nov. 9. 

 

Genealogical Society

The Farmer City Genealogical and  Historical Society (FCG&HS) will host their  annual meeting at 7 p.m., Nov. 19  at the VFW Building, 110 S. Main Street,  Farmer City.

 

Blue Ridge School Board

The Blue Ridge School Board will meet Wednesday, Nov. 20 to discuss and vote on a possible football cooperative with the Ridgeview School District. 

Citizen opinions will be heard at the 7 p.m. meeting at the Bellflower Community Center. 

 

UMW Bake Sale

On Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Sunshine Center on route 54 in Farmer City will host the United Methodist Women’s bake sale from 8 a.m. until noon or earlier if sold out.

 

Children’s Activity

On Saturday, Nov. 23 from  10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., LeRoy author Pamela Hahn will be reading and signing copies of her book, “The Star Who Almost Wasn’t There.”

Books may be purchased—proceeds will be donated to needy children.

Children, ages preschool through grade 6, will have the opportunity to make 2 pine cone ornaments—one to take home and one to put on the Christmas Tree at the museum.

 

FC Christmas Parade

Entries are needed for the 2013 Farmer City Chamber of Commerce Annual Christmas Parade, set for Sunday, Nov. 24. The parade will step off at the
Farmer City Fairgrounds at 2 p.m.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas at the Movies.” The parade is traditionally one of the largest Christmas parades in Central Illinois and always draws a huge crowd of spectators. Traditional entrants include various high school bands, Shrine entries, and
former WCIA weather forecast Judy Fraser. 

Individuals and groups are encouraged to enter. If you

FC Post-Parade Meal

The Joe Williams American Legion Post 55 Auxiliary will be serving soup and sandwiches after the annual Christmas parade on Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Legion post home near the fairgrounds.

 

Opus 24 Concert

The Decatur Choral Society’s Opus 24 presents its fall concert, How Great Our Joy!, on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Opus 24 will present both sacred and secular music under the direction of Milton Scott. The selections to be presented vary from traditional choral literature to recently composed works.

 

Christmas Bazaar

On Nov. 30 the VFW Post 5520 Lades Auxiliary will host a Christmas Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The Bazaar will take place at 609 Edgebrook Drive, Champaign.

LeRoy Christmas Parade

The LeRoy Christmas Parade will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 at the corner of Mill and Center Streets. 

Parade entries will lineup at 1 p.m. at LeRoy High School where the parade will begin. 

The entry fee will be canned goods, as the theme of the year will be “A Thankful Christmas.” 

Trophies and ribbons will be awarded, and all types of entries are welcome, but please, no Santa Claus entries. Candy throwing is encouraged. 

Come out to the parade for fun with the whole family.

Sounds of Christmas

“Sounds of Christmas” will take place at the Empire Township Historical Museum at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1. 

The event will feature fourth grade and sixth grade students from LeRoy Elementary School and Madrigal singers from LeRoy High School. Elementary students will perform from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. Madrigal singers will perform after LeRoy’s Christmas parade.

 

Path Inc. Office Hours

Carolyn Casteel, Senior Specialist Outreach worker with PATH, Inc., a nonprofit senior outreach program based out of Bloomington, will be hosting office hours in Farmer City on Dec. 4 at the Outreach Center from 8:30 a.m. to noon. 

She can assist with Medicare/Medicaid, prescription assistance, Medicare Part D, license plate discounts and other programs. She should be contacted by Dec. 7 for help with Medicare Part D and by Dec. 31 for help with license plate discounts.

Christmas Cheer

Enjoy a cookie and a cup of hot cocoa at the Empire Township Museum on Dec. 7, 14, and 21 and view two new permanent exhibits – “The How” and the “Big Four Train Depot.”

Special Christmas exhibits include a children’s Christmas tree, a variety of old Bibles and a nativity collection. 

 

LeRoy Band and Chorus

On Dec. 8, The LeRoy Christmas Concert for the junior high and high school band will take place at 2 p.m., and the
 chorus concert will take place at 3:30 p.m. at LeRoy High School.

 

LeRoy Pre-K Screening

The LeRoy Right Start Pre-K program will be issuing screenings from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at the LeRoy Elementary School. 

Contact the elementary school office to make an appointment at 309-962-4771. 

It is recommended parents bring a copy of the child’s official birth certificate and a copy of immunization and physical forms.

 

LeRoy H.S. Madrigals

The Leroy High School Madrigals will be hosting an alumni reception on Dec. 13 for their 50th anniversary. 

The reception will start at 6 p.m. and will be open to alumni , current members and the families of both. 

 

Madrigals Dinner

On Dec. 14 and 15, the madrigals will host a dinner open to the public at 1 and 6 p.m. 

The event will inclue more than 50 students participating in  the production in various ways, including as servers.
