A group of Blue Ridge parents and residents are working to pass the Mansfield Elementary referendum.
Citizens for a Better Blue Ridge formed in December as a response to the petition for the Mansfield addition to be placed on the March 20 ballot. Group leaders Katie Nichols, Dana Jenkins and Dawn Muth along with other parents and residents are spearheading the group. The group is not connected with the Blue Ridge School District.
“We believe in the passing of the referendum and allowing Blue Ridge to issue the necessary bonds to replace Mansfield Elementary,” Nichols said. “We ask for your vote-our children deserve a safe learning environment.”
Voters within the Blue Ridge School District will decide whether or not to approve the issuance of $6.5 million in bonds to build an addition onto the existing junior high school in Mansfield. In November, 435 community members signed a petition to let voters decide if the district should issue the bonds to pay for the project.
